Instructional Design Specialist, (Technical Specialist) Academic Technology
North Shore Community College
Duties & Responsibilities: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provide professional development and support to faculty in instructional design and pedagogy for effectively using technology to deliver online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. Primary tasks include, but are not limited to, conducting faculty consultations, developing and delivering workshops, facilitating an online course for new online faculty, developing multimedia and web-based course materials, developing documentation, and providing technical assistance to faculty in the use of educational technology tools. This position also plays a key role in managing course and curriculum development projects, creating timelines and ensuring that projects are completed on time. Supporting faculty as they integrate technology into teaching and learning is the primary focus of this position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide consultation services for faculty in instructional design, pedagogy, and instructional technology in the implementation of online, hybrid, web-supported and face-to-face courses.
• Facilitate online professional development course for faculty new to online teaching.
• Assist faculty with the design & implementation of course materials related to the integration of technology into the teaching & learning process.
• Design and develop multimedia course materials using instructional software and train faculty in use of multimedia software and design techniques.
• Support faculty use of instructional technology tools and software through online resources, live or virtual workshops, courses or learning experiences, documentation, and scheduled one-on-one help.
• Research and pilot new educational technology tools that support teaching and learning both online and onsite.
• Work with college via relevant committees, and components such as Information Systems, the grants office, the library, and tutoring services to support, develop and implement instructional technology services for faculty.
• Manage projects within Academic Technology and in coordination with the Distance Learning and media/production department.
• Promote Academic Technology initiatives throughout the college via workshops, internal websites and electronic tools, committees and other groups, and meetings with departments and individual faculty and staff.
• Participate in relevant departmental and college wide committees.
• Represent department at conferences.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic experience in teaching (preferably both online and in the classroom), instructional design, pedagogy and curriculum, professional development, distance learning, and in coordinating or managing of projects is required for this position. Additionally, a strong commitment to customer service and working knowledge of Web-based tools, software, and multimedia is required. Interested individuals must have excellent project management and organizational skills; high caliber interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to work with individuals who are new to using technology, ability to implement multiple projects simultaneously and experience in the design of online materials. The successful candidate must be creative, collaborative, flexible, and thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment. Schedule flexibility may be needed at certain times of the year.

Required Qualifications:
• Masters Degree required; preferably in Instructional Design or Educational Technology.
• Two or more years of experience teaching in higher education, preferably in a community college and preferably both online and in the classroom.
• Two or more years experience supporting online and hybrid instruction and technology-related classroom instruction with sound pedagogical principles and methodology.
• Demonstrated competence with pedagogy and assessment methods associated with integrating technology into teaching and learning.
• Two or more years experience in developing training materials, presenting professional workshops to faculty, and developing multimedia products.
• Strong philosophical belief in technology as a tool to enhance student learning and awareness of trends in instructional technology products, methods, and research.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated track record as a team player.
• Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
• Demonstrated problem solving skills and experience with technical troubleshooting.
• Proven written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in Course Management software, such as ANGEL, Blackboard, or WebCT.
• Demonstrated project management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience evaluating, designing, and developing instructional technology learning materials.
• Basic Web design skills including knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Dreamweaver.
• Proficient in the use of hardware and software tools associated with academic technology, such as Elluminate, Wimba, Tablet PCs, Smartboards, Camtasia, Respondus, Articulate, Captivate, and Flash.
Salary: Anticipated salary is $50,785 - $53,000 per year plus fringe benefits. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
