Formerly MUS-161, this course serves as an introduction to the diverse musical traditions of the world. Students will explore the music of a variety of cultures and regions, and come to understand how it is shaped by social customs, geography, history, and cross-cultural interaction. No prior musical experience is required. This course satisfies General Education requirement "Creative Work". Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in Academic Reading II (ESL088) and Academic Writing II (ESL089), or Reading Skills I (RDG090) and Writing Skills I (ENG090), or exemption by placement testing.
